Nowadays, if you want to start a conversation with someone about punk, all you hear coming out of his or her mouth is Blink 182, Good Charlotte, Green Day,… Antibodies use their middle finger to describe those bands. Antibodies goes back to the streets and the roots of hardcore punk and bring you old school New York hardcore on their latest album Live Fast, Die Old School.
The band is clearly influenced by these pioneers in hardcore punk as the first song, F*ck You, clearly refers to the Agnostic Front in the age of Victim In Pain. So do songs like Defying You and Mommy And Daddy. Other tracks are clearly influenced by another band, called Breakdown. Songs as Friends Forever, Mind Control and Anxiety Attack could just have been taken from a Breakdown record. Of course, if we refer to NY hardcore, we can’t forget one of the most important bands of them all, called the Cro-Mags. Blacked Out, In My Eyes, 12 Hours,… immediately made me think of this legendary band with John Joseph as key figure.
Oi!To Your Mutha is the one song that combines all these influences into a great punk hardcore song written on the streets of Massachusetts.
All of these influences could make you think that Antibodies is far from original, but actually, who cares? This is a very good hardcore punk album to which you can even mosh in your living room.
Antibodies sound loud and pissed off on this album and are ready to point their middle finger … at you! “They may be young, fat and ugly, but they are the Antibodies !”
85/100
