Industrial music is back from the past and it’s coming your way from Chicago, brought to you by Sanford Parker and Bruce Lamont. You’ll probably know the first one from bands such as Minsk, High Confessions and Nachtmystium. These two guys have shared their musical interests underneath the wings of Circle Of Animals and they clearly are influenced by bands such as Ministry and Killing Joke.
Destroy The Light is their first full-length album released by one of the best underground labels, Relapse Records. It’s an album with eight solid industrial, early-age punk songs on which every song is written for another drummer. Drummers who have contributed to the songs are Steve Shelley from Sonic Youth, John Merryman from Cephalic Carnage and many others.
The album kicks off with Invisible War. It’s a very hypnotic song which immediately makes me think of Ministry. Whereas this track has a hypnotic touch, Seminal Animal sounds rather dark.
Parker and Lamont obviously aren’t afraid to add special elements to their album. In All Spirit _ No Mind, they use a harmonica and in Destroy The Light they had even asked some ladies to sing some very high notes for the song.
Fans of Killing Joke and Minsk can buy this album without any hesitation. I only wonder if Circle Of Animals will gain many new fans with this album.
