The guys of the Italian power folk band Elvenking have always been wandering in the vast metal scene. After each new album, they prove what they’re capable of, but just some months later you start to wonder what happened to all the fresh and fantastic material. That’s quite a shame, because with their new full length album, which is entitled Red Silent Tides, Elvenking once again shows that the band has grown both musically and vocally. Catchy power metal with a wonderful folky touch is what we get on our plate. The guitar riffs are again fantastic and this album might just be their most bombastic one ever!
Red Silent Tides contains lots of diversity and, most importantly, Elvenking’s sound seems to have evolved from metal to hard rock. The songs are really to the point and that’s what makes this album so wonderful. Also the grunts seem to be history. The Last Hour and Possession are just two wonderful examples of this. On this last one, we’re even treated with some nice violins, which makes it really perfect.
It’s really clear that this entire album works! Red Silent Tides is very different from its predecessors, but it’s definitely for the better!
