Band : Motörhead Yeah Baby, Motörhead finally started their own label, which means that this now legendary band finally has a bit more control over their assets (I mean, I sure hope so for them, because these guys deserve to be able to live off the making of their music, and then some!). This new album was written & recorded in the year that Lemmy had his 65th anniversary, but anyone saying that the band's music is outdated had better believe (s)he'll find people telling just the opposite (myself included). Over the last couple of years I've been fortunate enough to have gotten the (enjoyable) task of reviewing Motörhead's albums, and I daresay the trio has created a constant high level of output. As per usual, there's a couple of deviations from the band's signature sound...which is generally described as typical NWoBHM, a term Lemmy does not exactly favour .In a recent interview he mentioned that he prefers his music to be dubbed “Rock”, because he comes “...from a time before Metal existed...”...so let's just call this Motörhead music to keep everybody happy! The deviations? Well, as if to make Lemmy's point there's “Rock 'n' Roll Music”, which certainly has an influence from that type of music. Second “deviation” comes with the great “Brotherhood Of Man”, which can be seen as the album's “Orgasmatron”. For those not familiar with the song, it sees Lemmy singing – or even kinda melodically speaking his lyrics – in a much lower voice than usual, with the music a higher repetition factor than usual to emphasize the darkness of the song. Overall, the album is simply super, and anyone familiar with and into the band can simply buy the album blindly. Those among you needing to hear some of the album's material to make sure, will have to make due with possible samples at one of the trusted online sales websites...or visit the local shop...because I've found no songs off the new album posted at the band's MySpace page! Anyone wanting to know what the band's been up to in between the last album Motörizer (review of 4-track press teaser and actual album, by yours truly, posted 10/09/2008), had better check the band's page on Wikipedia. If you're looking forward to go see the band in live conditions, the band is touring North America from Jan 25 to March 11, Australia (4 gigs) from March 26 to the first of April, and South America (8 gigs) from April 6 to April 26. Up to this pont, no news yet of when the band will be making it over to Europe. 92/100 Tony. |
