Band : Mindbox I was somewhat confused when I got a copy of this album for review, as at the time of reviewing the band's self-released full-length by the same title (review posted 14/09/2010), I though the label was just gonna give the album an improved cover artwork, and then distribute it as such! Well, I thought wrong! Now there's something weird goin' on with this album, you know, because even though I found 3 different release dates (December being the last on, other dates were Nov. 12, and October 25!), there's still no info available about the band on the label's website! More confusion befell me when listening to this new version of the album, because after the opening track “Beautiful” it somehow did not have the same flow as before...and after a short checking I found out that the 11 original songs were placed on the album in a different sequence (except for “Beautiful” and the album closing title track), the track originally titled “Scared” was re-titled “You Should Be Scared”, and midway the album the track “Sun” was added (the booklet shows no separate recording info on the track, so I suppose it was originally recorded at the same time as the rest of the material). Evidently, the whole of the aforementioned changed doés alter the album's flow somewhat, but certainly nót in a negative way! I mean, the material is simply too good for that, and with the “bonus” track in place, you now get a 47 ½ minute album! Positive is also the band's changed MySpace page, which now boasts some more material (shorter samples of 3, an shorter version of “Sun”, and a full-length version of the wacky album closing album title track), as well as a “making of” video. Meanwhile, I've grown to like Mindbox's swirling Pop Rock tunes even more than the first time I came across the band (kinda natural, I'd say, with the renewed listening sessions), hence the slightly higher rating. 90/100 Tony. |
