Band : Destruction The name Destruction vaguely rang a bell when I looked at this CD. Was this the same Destruction from way back in the early eighties? Yes, my dear ladies and gentlemen, it is. Now whereas in the eighties I still was in my so to say experimental phase, where I tried out bands like Venom, Holocaust, but also a lot of other bands, over the years my taste has softened a bit, and I like my music a bit softer now. That’s not so say that occasionally I don’t like to hear some real headbanging music again, hey, it was only yesterday that I played Jaguar’s Power Games again, but Trhash Metal, even back then, was not really my cup of tea, and still not is, nor I think will it ever be. As far as this album is concerned, well you could call is some kind of concept album, since it goes about the last man on earth, facing the end of the world. So it’s obvious that you shouldn’t expect a ballad nor a love song on this album… Now if I have to judge this album without prejudices, I’d say that musically, despite being trash metal, it’s not too bad. Drum work is nail hard, and very fast, is this because they’ve enlisted a new drummer, called Vaaver? Vocals of course are entirely something else. If you’ve just before been listening to Magnum’s The Visitation, and then you put this on, is like going from a sun drenched beach with pretty scantily clad girls and suddenly being teleported to the North Pole, where your only company is an hungry icebear. With such a theme for your album, lyrics aren’t exactly what you’d call cheerful either. Think decay, war, destruction and so on. So to sum it up, once in a while I’ll try some music that normally would not find it’s way to my CD player, but this is not a group that I’ll review again. Sorry guys. 65/100 Erik Morren. |
