Review : CDEP

Doperman have given us some nice and varied groove metal in the form of this self-produced EP.

The music has a solid stoner foundation, with opener “No pages left” rocking away with thick riffs, heavy bass and some killer grooves. I am always pleased when an album exceeds my expectations and this one does. There were several moments on this album where I expected the band to go in a safe direction, but they would surprise by keeping the pace strong and maintaining a heavier sound than I predicted. Right from the start, the music is simple and straight forward and very well performed. The sound might be comparable to a cross between Clutch, COC, Sixty Watt Shaman, Dozer, Fu Manchu and maybe a dash of Hawkwind. For some reason they are far heavier than I was expecting and almost every song charges full-on ahead. I was also surprised by just how tight the playing is overall as they waste very little time in any of the five tracks here.

Even though there is nothing really new here, Doperman are still enjoyable. I've heard the CDEP several times and I am not at all bored with it. Just because its covered ground does not mean that its not good.
