Band : Eastern Front When you have a look at the cover and title of this album, I think it’s quite obvious what the main theme of the songs will be. You see a tank, snow and the band name Eastern Front and what do you make of that? World War II, indeed. Eastern Front is a brand new black metal band born from the fusion between Holocaust and Krieg. With Blood on Snow, this new band of brothers displays its interest for the history of war, through music. They are even labelled ‘War Torn Black Metal’, but still, on Blood on Snow, we find some experimental influences from genres such as Doom, folk, Death and even classical as well and all of this with one main goal: creating a bunch of varying atmospheres in each song, which evokes all emotional experiences of battle. This all might seem well considered, what annoys me ultimately on this album are the percussions, which are just way too loud and not well mastered. This is just one remark, but it’s a big one, which the band should definitely take into consideration as far as the (possible) upcoming albums are concerned. Just one reminder, that’s all indeed, because songs as "Battle of Smolensk" and "Where Warriors Once Fell" are incredibly convincing. This band really has great potential and with Blood on Snow, Eastern Front are definitely ready to take over Black Metal in Europe. 70/100 Tim. |
