Band: Nadiwrath Nadiwrath is a Satanic Black Metal band from Greece, with members of nice acts like Dodsferd, Heavensore, Stellar Darkness or Cross Denied. Very shortly after the band’s birth, a first (nameless) demo was recorded, and Nihilistic Stench is the first full length, available via top-label Moribund Cult. Kult! As from the first creation on Nihilistic Stench, it is evident what Nadiwrath (still) stand for: dirty and rough old style Black Metal with (traditional) elements from Thrash, Speed and Heavy Metal, as well as a sleazy Punk’n’Roll attitude. And Nadiwrath is that kind of band that injects the compositions with lots of varying details, like many tempo-changes, different vocals (screams, grunts, harmony chants, Heavy Metal shouts, growls etc), the addition of instrumental extras and the differentiation in sphere. Some tracks are rather eighties Black/ Thrash’n’Roll-oriented, others come closer to a suicidal or funereal atmosphere, a few parts remind me to Nordic underground beauty, then again perversion and merciless blood-spilling are the main characteristics. But all of it comes with one defining keyword: Old School!
Even though these Greeks don’t sound renewing (at all), there are two elements that do not care about not being original: first of all the variation (the influences are rather large – see below), and secondly the very, very satisfying elegies. Bands that certainly come to mind (depending on the track): Dodsferd (of course), Draugar, Carpathian Forest / Nattefrost / Bloodline, Impaled Nazarene, Damnation, Darkthrone, Mord and End (the Greek one, of course). 90/100 Ivan Tibos. |
