Band : Revolution Renaissance Revolution Renaissance, the rebirth of revolution, which is quite a logical name for this band considering the melodic power metal we get to listen to. What’s even more logical is the very original name of the third album of this band, entitled Trinity. With this album, first class guitar hero Timo Tolkki, who used to be the mastermind of highly anticipated melodic metal band Stratovarius, calls it a day. This album marks the end of the Revolution Renaissance era. Whether that’s a bad thing or not, I leave that up to you, but according to me, it isn’t too much of a shame. Don’t get me wrong. The music on this album is well considered and definitely melodic power metal, but just as the album’s title, it’s far from innovative. Nothing really sounds fresh nor original. In addition, the vocals are abominable from time to time and the production is just outrageous. All of this definitely accounts for the discontinuation of Revolution Renaissance. Songs as "Marching with the Fools", "The world doesn’t get to me" and the ten-minute-lasting title track are perfectly enjoyable for true melodic power metal fans, but it’s just not what you would expect from a guitar virtuoso such as Timo Tolkki. However, let’s hope that Tolkki doesn’t ignore these comments, because with the correct mastering and a better vocalist, he could just create a new pearl of a band. 65/100 Tim Tronckoe. |
