Band: The Bridal Procession The Bridal Procession are a rather young Paris-based band, formed in 2007. That very same year, there was a first demo, called Introduction To The Procession, yet since then, nothing interesting happened anymore. Yes, they did play live with bands as Cephalic Carnage, Neaera, Malevolent Creation, As I Lay Dying or Vomitory. The actual recordings for the debut full length studio album got postponed several times. With new members, and after signing to upcoming UK-based Extreme Metal label Siege Of Amida, the band could finally move on. It started in summer 2009, when the band started working with Heaven Shall Burn’s Alexander Dietz (Rafflesia, Neaera, Misery Speaks etc) for the recording, while the mix had been done somewhat later by As I Lay Dying/ Austrian Death Machine frontman Tim Lambesis (Sworn Enemy, Zao, Molotov Solution) and As I Lay Dying colleague Daniel Castleman (Winds Of Plague, Sworn Enemy, Zao). Astronomical Dimensions lasts for almost forty minutes and opens with a short symphonic intro, but believe me: this piece of sweetness gets forgotten soon! What this band brings is massive, bludgeoning and colossal intensity. The Bridal Procession perform an extremely magisterial and uncompromising form of Blast/ Death Metal with several variations in musical theme (neo-orientalised acoustics, like on the title track) and tempo (with many breaks and hooks). The modern sound fits well to the eccentric aggression, and it makes the technical skills by the members stand out shamelessly. A nice addition is the well-injected use of floating, atmospheric keyboard lines from time to time, not to ‘lead’ the whole, but to strengthen the controversial extremity behind the concept. For fans of: Vader, Nile, SoulReaper, Shaarimoth, Decapitated, Behemoth, Hour Of Penance, Yyrkoon. 75/100 Ivan Tibos. |
