Italian metal band Athwart were born in the year 2006 by the hands of MiKele (singer/guitarist) and Juliet (lead guitarist) after a previous trash metal (called Micuisa 37%) didn”t worked out hat well. Later on in august 2006 they met up with drummer Marco around the same period when bass player Mirko completed the line-up.
Later on a Live DVD followed but after that things got a bit quiet around this band, until the end of 2009 when Athwart renewed their line up: Mikele (howls and rhythm guitar), Juliet (lead guitar), David (bass guitar) and Giulio (drums). But the band is back and is trying to get their latest creation called “Trademark Of Hegemony” to metal fans around the world.
And people can be glad they are trying to do that. The band brings trash metal, but extremely good trash metal witch finds it’s elements in bands like Testament, Biohazard, Soulfly,… And I do mean that literally, this band sounds like Max Cavalera singing in Testament (or Biohazard). Brutal vocals meet extreme technicality on this one. And that brings me to the best thing about this album, you’ll probably read it and yes it is true, solo’s lick’s and tricks all come from the lead guitarist “Juliet”. Indeed a woman managing just fine in a man dominated genre.
