Review: CD
Young Brazilian thrashers Disaffection (not to confuse with Portuguese progressive Death-combo Disaffected) release their debut, which was recorded shortly after the strong and promising nameless four-track demo (nameless, yet sub-titled as Begin The Revolution too), via Iowa, US-based Extreme Metal label Bombworks. Initially, Begin The Revolution was supposed to be Bombworks’ first 2010-release, yet it took until now to achieve a proper distribution / promotion.
The Thrash-quintet uses Christian-inspired lyrics, which characterises their current label’s vision and mission, yet they don’t ‘just praise’ their godly hero. Also politics and social topics are part of the lyrical deal.
Begin The Revolution starts with a few seconds of artillery fire, but after this revolting introduction, Disaffection bring comparable stuff to the demo (but with a much better sound). The eighties-influenced Thrash Metal reminds me a lot to the Bay Area-scene and the German one, and in a way it is both timeless and universal. The first has to do with: ‘eighties’ in combination with ‘modern production’, the latter with ‘German’, ‘Bay Area’, and ‘trans-European / trans-American’ at the same time.
The level of originality comes close to absolutely inexistent, and this goes for every detail: vocals and instruments, atmosphere, compositions / song writing, and sound. Think Warbringer, Dark Angel, Tankard, Slayer, Exodus, Fatal Embrace, Municipal Waste, Evile and Dekapitator, with a comparable technicity, yet less persuasive… Too predictable, too ‘easy’, too safe…
70/100
