Band : Seth. ECT Taking my introductory lead from the info sheet we got along with the debut album of this Turkish band, Industrial music, or rather Industrial Metal (because the following has little to do with Industrial monsters like Einstrurzende Neubauten, to name but one) has for a long time been viewed in a number of lights. On one side of the room you've got the soul scorching power of NIN, while on the other you've got the synth heavy allure of Apoptygma Berzerk and in a world all of their own you've got Ministry. In any case, the genre is anything but stale, as with Seth. ECT we're being shown all the previously unknown corners of the room at the same time! Again (almost literally) from that same info page comes the following. Founded at the end of 2008 by guitarists Ismail “Izo” Parlak & Murat Alkan (both also of Death Metal/ Crossover act Burst Appeal, founded in 2005 – the latter also having the Turkish Solitude written on his cv), singer Aybars Altay, and bassist Mert Tartac, the band was formed with the intent of combining the power of Industrial music and the agression of Extreme Metal with traditional Oriental music, creating a truly haunting, brutish yet vastly appealing sound that's encapsuled perfectly on the band's album Godspeak. A few things which remain unmentioned in both the info sheet ànd on the band's MySpace page (www.) myspace.com/sethect, include the performer of the truly wacky synths, the handler of the frequently passing Oriental music samples, and the occupant of the drum stool (if indeed these three are not one and the same electronic device?)...but quite frankly, I couldn't care less, as long as Seth. ECT continue to make such great music in the future! My goodness, one needs only listen to the demo versions of the songs (not sure whether they contain all elements of the album tracks, such as frequently used vocoder on the backing singer's singing) the band posted at the mentioned MySpacepage (also posted there is the crazy but non-album cover of the Slayer track “Dead Skin Mask”) to understand that what we get here is a highly unique band, which I've had the pleasure to enjoy several times before having to start on this review! Putting things quite frankly, people into the heavier styles of Industrial Music, cannot allow themselves to let Godspeak pass 'em by! 10 years ago, this band would've been signed with a big fat deal!!! Year-lists material, everyone!!!! 98/100 Tony. |
