Band : Gernotshagen It took them six years after ‘Märe aus den Wäldernen Hallen’ to bring out this new album but I’d say it was worth waiting for it. I’m not quite sure under which sub-genre I’d put this kind of music, since it has a bit of everything. It leans a bit toward black metal, but it has also folk influences. Maybe some people would call this Viking/pagan metal. It’s lucky the folk influences are not overpowering, because I’m absolutely no fan of real folk metal genre Korpiklaani. Of, course, as with all other German bands, singing in their native tongue, it takes some time before your ears get accustomed to the language, but after a few spins you really get into it. The normal singing is alternated with grunts and growls, but for once I don’t mind. The title track alone is almost worth buying this CD, it’s that good. The variation in songs is also contributing to this album. Also note the very clear production. It’s rather hard to pick out a real favorite song though, so I’ll pick two, the title track ‘Weltenbrand’ and ‘Schlachtenbruder’. It’s a genre of metal I’m not that familiar with, but this is a nice way to discover one of the many subgenres of metal music. 90/100 Erik Morren. |
