Band : Jeremy Irons & The Ratgang Malibus Jeremy Irons & The Ratgang Malibus, the five-piece from Stockholm, Sweden, have a mouthful of a name, and more than a mouthful of an album. Bloom is a good handcrafted album and features 8 tracks where none fails or are uninteresting. There are some flaws but compared to the qualities they are not that serious. The classic heavy 70’s sound may be there, but the songs are fresh and rather original. Bloom is not an instantly accessible record, but that is where its charm lies. Where many young bands prefer to opt for blistering cruising groove rock which may stick right from the start but soon lose all interest, Jeremy Irons & The Ratgang Malibus offer songs that crave to be discovered. Opener “Elefanta” is an atmospheric Floydian track, which transports you into the realms of the dreamking. Every song is masterful, filled with great melodies, fantastic interplay, rich soaring flowing textures of guitars and the vocals especially the harmonies are really good. The groovy rockers “Skin deep” and “IAOA” are among the best songs since the massive crunchy grooves make it impossible to stand still. No throwaway songs here, they’re all quality. On the last track “Fernando” the twangy guitars laced with slides and harp blues licks just complete the album, one of the best tracks on the album I feel, with the two guitarists worth their money on this track alone. The intensity of each track is so deep you wonder what was going around the time of writing and recording. Thumbs up from here and I hope they will get their breakthrough (ex Graveyard, Witchcraft, Siena Root) soon. 92/100 Cosmicmasseur. |
