It is said that this band is influenced by bands like Dream Theater, Vanden Plas,Saga and Symphony X.  That may be the case, but when I first played this CD, my first impression was : hey, this sounds awfully like Rage on their ‘Ghosts’ album. Appearance Of Nothing was founded in Switzerland by Pat Gerber (vocals/guitar), Yves Lüthi (drums), Omar Cuna (vocals/bass), and Marc Petralito (keyboards), later they added Peter Berger on lead guitar.
What makes them stand out from most other bands is that they have two vocalists, each with a very distinct style.  One of them has a nice smooth voice, whereas the other one sounds deep and raspy.

As far as releases are concerned, they started in 2005 with a self-produced demo ‘Behind Closed  Doors’, and in 2008 their first full release ‘Wasted Time’ came out.
I find it very hard to put this music into a category, because their music is so diverse, they can play heavy, but also soft and acoustic.  You hear stitches of progressive metal, but also symphonic metal, and when you hear the  ‘The Call Of Eve’ starting with keyboards, you’d almost be tempted to think that this song was from another group, because it sounds really techno, but the song evolves into a rather fast paced one.

A very good album, that will undoubtedly find it’s way back to lay CD player from time to time.
