Band : Tangent Plane Second album by this Greek/German/Italian band after their 2008 self-released debut album ‘Among Grey Masks’. Musically it’s very strong. Lots of breaks and tempo changes, and well played as well. You only get eight songs, but the album lasts over an hour, with the title track ‘Project Elimi’ lasting over 20 minutes. This album should be forming the first part of a trilogy And although there’s not much wrong musically, I’m having a hard time really liking this album. And the disturbing factor for this is the frontman Jan Michaelis. Besides the fact that he’s got a rather bad articulation, he’s also got a vibrato in his voice, that is in no way helping the overall sound. My conclusion : either they find another vocalist, or they should consider sticking to instrumental songs. Or, last alternative, they keep the singer, but then he should stick more to his natural timbre, and not exert himself too much. /100 Erik Morren. |
