Crowbar is a sludge/groove metal band from New Orleans, U.S.A. The band dates back to 1988, when Windstein Kirk joined Hardcore band Shell Shock. Here he met Drummer Jimmy Bower, who was their drummer, and both quickly became friends, but it wasn’t until the band renamed themselves Crowbar in mid-1991 witch set the ball to roll. The band is most characterized and known for their extremely slow, low-keyed, heavy and brooding songs that also contain fast hardcore punk passages.
Finally fans of the band can celebrate, for it has been 6 years they had to wait for their latest album called “Sever The Wicked Hand”. People who don’t now this band can be surprised in a good way when you go out to check this record. First of you have to now that this isn’t you everyday metal band that seems to be on a quest to be the worlds fastest and heaviest metal band out there (witch is a nice and welcome change), these guys go slow and fast.
Musically and keeping technique in mind, the album just kicks ass and leaves everyone behind. The entire album is so good and is so brutal that it doesn’t matter if the tempo is slow or fast.
The different moods they create with these switches are almost like movie soundtracks and have so much more depth, tone variety and changes ( in mood, style, sound,…) but still keep a certain structure that ties all the songs on the record together. Witch isn’t easy for band, being so faithful to themselves and fans after 6 years and the many more they exist.

94/100
