In 2011, we have the birth of a new band from Norway, called Dystopia Na!, releasing their first full-length album to the world, entitled Syklus. The band delivers a vast mixture of all kinds of metal genres: a big amount of doom metal, an interesting twist of black metal and some fine avant garde tunes turn Syklus into a good sounding album. There are only eight tracks on Dystopia Na!'s first album, but for a new band, this is more than enough. You can better have eight breathtaking tracks instead of twenty dreadful monsters of songs.
From the opening track, Vernod until the very last tunes of Barn av Lerret, we are exposed to a huge variety of styles and music which make Syklus on its whole something amazingly interesting to listen to. On the one hand, we have the aggressive sounding doom tracks and on the other hand, we get to listen to the dreamy waves of Dystopia Na!'s pure imagination, now to be shared with the rest of the world.
One of the most striking songs on Syklus is without any doubt Neon. It's an enchanting song that carries the listener away to a cold land filled with both magic and emotion, using the piano and clean guitars. Wonderfully brought, if you ask me.
Whenever you feel the urge to listen to something innovative, completely 'out of the box', something that is doom metal and black metal, but at the same time totally not, lend your ears to Dystopia Na!'s Syklus. You will be amazed.
