Guido Campiglio is a soloist guitar player of the power neo-classical metal school. The man got so popular due to his guitar play that he even is the guitarist of the Italian Yngwie J. Malmsteen tribute band called “Fire and Ice”.
But the ball started rolling in 2009 for Guido. The year he went “solo” and the year he got signed with SG records and records his first album Saturn in 2010, but this was just the beginning for Guido, with the second release Rumble In The Jungle, produced and released in late 2011.
S if you would like to compare it, Yngwie Malmsteen is a good reference point, but technically not even close. The thing about solo artists is that there are 3 ways they can go with it. First you have the over the top shredding with breaking boundaries, setting new limits and doing something experimentally. Second you have some awesome music that sounds great but actually is fun to listen to and last you have just pure rubbish.
Unfortunately Guido can best be placed as that third way. Don’t get me wrong the man can definitely play guitar, better then most guitar players I know personally and I can only hope to become half as good as him one day. But technically these songs are not in the same league as other shredders like Yngwie, Satriani, …..and to be honest these songs are just not fun to listen to sound wise. There is no consistency or a certain way where this music goes to and comes over as just some random notes.
