Through no fault of my own (fuckin' Hotmail occasionally does nót send through certain mails, even though they give the sender a sign that they have), this review did not get through to my editor-in-chief when I sent it to him first (now just over a week ago)...but here it is anyway!

The first time I came across these Horror Punk/ Alternative Rockers from Bluefield, Virginia, was at the occasion of the release of their 2008 “compilation” album Anatomy Of Reanimation, the review of which was posted on December 11 of the same year.

To follow up on the band's history tale which I started there, I can now add that the band had recorded a complete album's worth of material, which was never released until may of last year, when the 10 tracks were issued under the title Songs For The Aesthetically Challenged. It shows the band in their pre-ghoulish days with material which geared towards and Emo-laden punk Rock. Even before that (February 2009), the band released another album, this time live and therefore entitled Studio Dead (Live On WFMU).

With Apparitional, the guys continue their now known musical direction with a total of 16 new tracks...one of which was not included in the download promo version, but then we were able to hear it on the band's MySpace page, where it is posted alongside this album's “Mr. Sardonicus” and a total of 8 tracks off other albums by the band. If you're into music by the likes of...let's say Misfits to use a big name in the genre, you definitely stand to like what Blitzkid delivers...and if you hadn't made an acquaintance with this band yet, I strongly suggest you check the songs posted at (www.) myspace.com/blitzkid. If, in your decision to buy albums, you need further convincing by witnessing the band in live conditions first, there's definitely a possibility to get to know the band better by goin' to one of their 17 shows on the German tour which they start later this same month (that's April, see, and by the way, there's additional one-off shows in Austria, Denmark, and Sweden).

Fans of the band might be interested in getting themselves a copy of the Head Over Hills EP which, besides the title track (in a “Piano Take” version) and an alternate version of “They're All Dead”...both songs off this album...include a cover of the Misfits song “Theme For A Jackal” and an unlikely choice for a cover with Bruce Springsteen's “I'm on Fire” (I'm sure the version the guys made f it exceeds the original in both pace and intensity).

85/100

Tony.
