The month of April sees Avenue Of Allies releasing yet another rather West coast styled album, this one by multi-instrumentalist and singer George (Jerzy) Grunwald.  Being born in Poland, but raised in Sweden, he lived in New York for a while during his teen years.  His father, a classical pianist, thought him how to play piano, but at the age of 16 he picked up the guitar, and started writing his first song.  He later on moved back to live in Sweden again. West coast music, while it’s not bad, is not one of my preferred genres, and sadly enough this album lacks a bit of balls. It’s all a bit too soft, with even some jazzy and also a lot of saxophone.  Not that this is a bad album, not at all.  The songs themselves are quite catchy, and with the help of lots of well known and highly praised vocalists like Bill Champlin, David Foster among others on the backing vocals it all sounds very crisp, but as I said, it’s a bit too mellow for my taste.

This might be an album that’s attractive though for those who like this kind of music.
