CD REVIEW Sergeans Steel

Band : Sergeans Steel
Album title : Lovers & Maniacs
Label : Refused Records
Distributor : Twilight Distribution
Release Date : 03/06/2011
Release : CD

Originally self-released by this Austrian band in 2010, this is a rerelease by Refused Records.  My first impression upon playing this CD : this is a band that still seems to be looking for an own identity and an own style.
By which I mean that at times their songs tend toward the sleazy rock genre, yet at other times they sound more like Queen, though with less bombast and with a not so well gifted vocalist,  and finally you get some Judas Priest  Influences.

Although it’s not a bad effort, I do find it a difficult CD, due to the very diverse influences and styles.
The musicians seem talented enough, and the vocal work is not bad either, so let’s hope that on their second album, on which they’re working at the moment, they find their own style.
Although the mastering was done by Beau Hill (Ratt, Alice Cooper) there are songs which sound a bit thin.

65/100
