Band : Codasync “Aaààrrrgghhh...,” (imagine me salivating from pure joy, while stretching out my arms towards the promo package the editor-in-chief was showing me) “...a new Codasynchhh...gimme, gimme...,” I whispered with a hoarse and stressed voice! Well, from that imaginative intro (the act described only happened in my mind at the time, and never actually took place) you might correctly get the idea that I have a soft spot for this Antwerp based Belgian instrumental quartet! In fact, I was certain in advance that I was gonna enjoy the band's new tunes. Oh wait...new tunes? It would appear that is only partly correct. Because what the band delivers here, are 5 tracks which were the result of spontaneous jam sessions ( from live performances, rehearsals...even from studio sessions...), “accidentilucky” (to one of the band's earlier paraphrases) recorded, and now reworked with the addition of several acoustic guitar interludes. Evidently, the layered sound from the band's first two releases (reviews of which, by your truly, were posted 10/03/2009 and 13/05/2010), and especially from 2009's In Galoré (an that's the second release, actually) is not present here, nor the occasional bombastic effects the layers occasionally generated...and overall this Snacycod can be seen as Codasync's calmest release to date! In exchange however, the Psychedelic feel of the band is enhanced beautifully! Heh...here's a clever thing: you may have noticed that the album's title is an anagram of the bandname? In other words, a jumbling about of the letters, to form another, pronounceable, word...or, in other words, the same thing presented differently! Well, that also goes for the music on the new mini-album, as it shows another side of the same band! Still the same band, and once notified of the fact, one is definitely able to recognize Codasync! Another funny thing: although the five songs are definitely separate units within the album, one is also capable to see 'em as part of a whole, with the acoustic passages mixed into the other material quite craftily, and an un-notified first-time listener would have a hard time recognizing these for studio-added material! Now that the tracks are on a release, we can only hope that the band might rehearse 'em, occasionally even play 'em in their live set! In essence, this is another need-to-have release. Personally, I cannot understand why this foursome hasn't got a deal yet with a decent label. Perhaps the band holds onto its independence? Perhaps the right label needs to be set on the good path? Here's a well-meant question, guys: have you sent any of your music to Mascot Records, by any chance? If not, do so now, because those guys know how to promote your kind of music, I'm sure! Those among you eager to hear some of the new material can listen to the 2 new tracks posted at (www.) myspace.com/codasync (there's 4 more tracks to enjoy as well, off the previous releases). Hum, and now what shall I do next? Add this to my new year-lists, or retro-actively add it to my “Best Albums Of 2010”, where it rightfully belongs? 98/100 Tony. |
