Band : Wyvern Although Wyvern goes back to 1985, this is only their second album, and as a matter of fact you can hardly call this a new album, since some of the songs also featured on their 1994 demo ‘Seasons Of Power’ and the 1996 ‘The Other One’ demo, as well as some songs featured on the 2002 ‘1989 – 1999’ Wyvern compilation. The other songs were recorded between 1998 and 2002, but never released. So it’s not exactly ‘new’ material. It must be said though that the songs taken from the demo’s were re-recorded. And I’m very sorry guys, but this band sounds dusty, as if their music hasn’t evolved at all since the eighties. OK, they sound a bit like Luca Turilli now and then, but that’s about it. Because not only is their sound dated, but to top it of you have to endure the vocals of Fabio Bonaccorsi. Not only does he have a very peculiar, rather nasal timbre, but on top of that his English is rubbish. To make matters even worse there are times when he sings completely off-key. In 2000 this album might have been branded with ‘interesting, showing promises’, but nowadays I think you’d better spend your hard earned money on another album. 55/100 Erik Morren. |
