Review: CD
Legio Mortis, hailing from Bavaria, Germany, formed fifteen years ago. The Human Condition And The Devil’s Contribution is the band’s fourth studio recording.
Thirteen songs with a total running time of more than an hour – an experience, a defiance.
First a short intro, some soundscape that so many bands seem to use. But as from opening song Unholy Four on: top!
Melodic and rhythmic Dark / Death Metal, with lots of tempo changes, atmospheric keyboards and a wide range on throat-abuse (grunts, screams, growls, yells).
Mainly mid- to up-tempo, with most of the time a sinister, mysterious, oppressing, obscure, blackened and haunting atmosphere. Not renewing, yet more than often unique in its approach and in its teamwork.
Full of contrasts: sometimes as strong and convincing as, let’s say, Ex Deo, Torchure, Bitter Harvest, Nox Mortis or Bloodthorn, then again predictable and boring, fake and hypocrite (f*ck that stupid Paradise Lost-cover).
Oh yeah, with guest vocals by Liv Kristine Espenœs (Leaves’ Eyes, ex-Theatre Of Tragedy).
72/100
