Title: Forgotten
Label: Thunderblast Records / Twilight
Distribution: Twilight / Bertus
Release date: April 8th 2011
Review: CD
Ever heard about Pequod? Honestly, I did not. Bizarre, because Munich-based Pequod were formed in 1998 and apparently they recorded two demos (Star(t) in 2001 and Epilepticat in 2002) and an EP (PequoD, 2004) before. Since then, things went silent, leaving the fans confused and hungry.
Finally… the debut full length. Forgotten … Forty five minutes of so-called Vortic-Death-Thrash Metal (what’s in a name).
Interesting fact: the guest musicians (vocalists): Steffen Kummerer (also in e.g. Obscura and Thulcandra), Daniel Droste (of Ahab / Midnattsol / Penetralia / Endzeit-fame) and Nick Kolar (think: Hatework / Deception / Funebris / Commander / Sycronomica).
The album: will be forgotten soon, I’m afraid. Not bad, the thrashy, somewhat Bay Area-styled form of European Death Metal with especially elements from the Swedish and German Old School. Nice sound too: professionally produced yet heavy and vortic indeed. The songs: very convincing, clearly performed by experienced members, but I’m waiting for something that does not seem to come.
Thin one is called Forgotten – the next one Remember?...
