Germany’s Tremors aren’t that known outside their home country. Nevertheless this sextet was formed during the late nineties and did record two EP’s and a full length before – which I wasn’t aware of. Did you?
Frozen Shores combines somewhat melancholic and pounding (Dark / Death / Doom-Death) Metal with atmospheric elements and a few electronic additions. In a way, this material sometimes reminds me to Samael’s musical efforts during the second part of the nineties, but with a less ‘cosmic’ approach, yet rather the eerie Doom / Goth-way. The rhythm section is extremely grooving, which gives the whole the sense of an enormous heaviness, no matter if the tempo is slow or faster. The riffs vary a lot: sometimes thrashing, then melodic, rather catchy, groovy, epic or stomping. The grunts by Christian Scherer are of a strong level, deep and powerful, emotive and very understandable – not that common for a German vocalist singing in English. And the addition of some keyboard lines, industrialised spheres and atmospheric or acoustic intermezzos works very well in combination with the other instruments and vocals. Besides, the sound is massive, which makes these fifty six minutes more than acceptable.
Frozen Shores ends with the Deep Purple-cover Perfect Strangers, the lesser song on this album, yet still enjoyable indeed.
