Emergency Gate is a Modern Melodic-Death/Metalcore Band from Munich and was founded in 1996, but the only member remaining from the original line-up is bass-player and manager Mario Lochert. And armed with symphonic synths, grinding guitars, soft lingering melodies and guttural growls, Emergency Gate doesn't bring something totally new to the scene when it comes to melodic death metal.
The “downside” to their latest release called “The Nemesis Construct”is that they actually want to make you believe they are something they aren’t. Opening track (called Alternative dead end) on the record starts out more as a metalcore tune similar to bands like “All that remains” or “Forever in Terror”. But after that the record changes into more of a European death metal album in the style of “In Flames” or “Enter Shikari”.
Although not a bad change in style, I cant help finding myself feeling ripped off by setting a certain bar and then not fulfilling their job. Apart from that not so objective point of view, the album isn’t that bad at all. Each band member knows what to do and does it well. Not to hard, not to soft, but beautifully balanced (even with those synts) what isn’t as easy as it seems. There are a few tracks on the record that don’t stand out from the others, but that’s just being picky.
