Monster Magnet has been taking a hiatus for some years, but now they are back with a brand new record, called Mastermind. Let's see if what the title suggests is actually true; let's check whether or not this really is a 'masterpiece'.
The album kicks off with the down-tempo Hallucination Bomb. The hallucination part in the title is definitely true, because it practically sounds like they've been taking some special 'medicine' while writing this song. The next song, Bored With Sorcery, is faster and often refers to the glory days of the most important song Monster Magnet have ever written, Space Lord. It is a very groovy song and the song proved that legendary Monster Magnet frontman Dave Wyndorf hasn't forgotten how to use his vocal chords on a stage and in the studio. Gods And Punks is a true-to-the-roots rock song. This could have easily been a Bon Jovi song, but no, Monster Magnet wrote this one for sure.
With Mastermind, Dave Wyndorf and his Monster Magnet, prove that they has overtaken their struggles and that they are back to release their Space Lord powers over the world. This is American metal at its very best.
