Soulspell, which honestly is a very catchy band name, might be rather unfamiliar to the average metal fan. This is not odd either, since Soulspell is not really a band. It's a Brazilian heavy metal opera project brought to life by drummer Heleno Vale. On The Labyrinth of Truths, we meet lots of well-known vocalists who play different characters during all nine songs. As already mentioned, the project gained assistance from great names from all over the world of metal, like Roland Grapow (ex. Helloween, Masterplan), Jon Oliva (ex. Savatage), Blaze Bayley (ex. Iron Maiden) and Tim Ripper Owens (ex. Judas Priest and Iced Earth) just to name a few.
The Brazilian metal scene is more than alive nowadays. The reason for this is more than obvious: Brazil contains tons of talented metal artists, rather unknown to the rest of the world, which is quite a shame. Soulspell is just one example of these unknown wonders. Songs as Dark Prince's Dawn, Amon's Fountain and certainly the title track make The Labyrinth of Truth an incredibly strong album, which shouldn't leave you untouched! Lighten up your cd player, insert this album, choose 'play', close your eyes and enjoy a bombastic journey to every man's past. A dream of an album, that's for sure.
