Review: CD
I do know a handful of bands that is / was called Deadlock, among which three in Germany. Bizarro World is a new album by the one from Schwarzenfeld, Bavaria, a band formed in 1997. The past ten years, Deadlock released four full lengths (except for the debut, all of them released via their current label, Lifeforce), adored by some, detested by others. Personally I think this band evolved positively – I could appreciate the 2008-album Manifesto a lot and praised the creative progression the band underwent.
Imagine my surprise, and my disappointment, with Bizarro World. All right, the concept is ‘the opposite’, extremes and antitheses in general (based on a 60s comic series), but unfortunately this gets not translated musically, at least not when it comes to Chaos and Anti-Life. Bizarro World is much too poppy, too sweet. It is the most modern recording by Deadlock to date, and the most catchy one as well. Electronics, Pop, Rock, Goth and Ambient, all of it with a Metal-based foundation, and loads of so-called ‘female fronted’ bullshit woven into the semi-passionate and emotional dramas…
Fuck, even the heavier parts are so childish. And what’s the point of these pathetic electronics from time to time?
Thanks, but no thanks! Not this time. Better next time…
65/100
