Band : Assassin Breaking The Silence follows the formula established on their previous outing The Club (2005) It's a formula that lacks the chemistry created on the band's first two albums Interstellar Experience (1988) and The Upcoming Terror (1987) Admittedly, Interstellar Experience and The Upcoming Terror were chock full of rudimentary, but in yer raw face teutonic thrash, but the production was mostly bad, two albums wading knee deep in mud and dust. However, these two releases cemented the band's position in the vanguard of German Thrash, near Deathrow, Violent Force, Exumer, … If you are a fan of Assassin and the aforementioned bands then you are going to enjoy the hell out of this release, likewise if you crave all the German, and I emphasis German, thrash metal that you can handle then there will be a place in your CD collection for it. However it's not going to send shockwaves round the metal community or change the opinions of anyone who previously loathed German thrash. Breaking The Silence is still a listenable album. It mixes speed and intensity , and gives a fair dose of old-school teutonic thrash, but unfortunately Assassin have real problems with creativity and they don’t seem to be about to fix them. 70/100 Peter Brems. |
