‘Hard Times And Nursery Rhymes’ is the seventh studio album from the foursome from Orange County. For the first time lead singer Mike Ness has taken the production of the album on his own shoulders. The result is a record that needs getting used to, to say the least. It’s far more calm and serene than what we ever heard from the Americans. The voice of Ness on the other hand sounds much rawer than ever before. The album opens strong with “Road Zombie”, an instrumental track which reminds me of the roots of the band. No nonsense, in your face punk rock without fringes.  Another strong punk rock song is “Machine Gun Blues”, the song that was the preview for the album. I needed some spins, before I actually heard that this album is nothing more, or less, than a typical Social D-album in a more accessible jacket. Mike Ness proves once more to be a musician with vision, and although ‘Hard Times And Nursery Rhymes’ reminds me of his solo work, it turned out to be a good album that combines the best of country, rock ‘n roll and punk rock!
