With Ominous, The Wretched End gave birth to another small miracle in the world of black metal. Of course, Samoth, the guitarist of the band is no unknown person in the scene, since he used to play in numerous other bands, such as Emperor and Zyklon, just to name a few. Samoth decided to leave these bands for what they were. He buried them and set his mind on a new project, a new black metal band which was baptised The Wretched End, which literally means ‘foreshadowing evil’. This explains quite well what the music on Ominous is all about. What we get on this album is an extremely varied mix of black metal, combined with death metal on a slice of super tight thrash metal. However dipped in old school aspects of all these genres, the songs on Ominous sound rather modern and refreshing. Thanks to songs such as Last Judgement, Red Forest Alienation and With Ravenous Hunger, this album is just what all true fans of the metal genre desire most: a convincing album full of super strong tracks.
