Band : Mr Peter Hayden Reliable sources indicated that this Finnish spacedoom sextet had something weird and wonderful going on, something nobody could quite put their finger on. It turned out to be true. Mr Peter Hayden are tough to categorize. Faster Than Speed is simply fascinating and surreal, a very high mark for all those involved in its creation.. The two 33 minute (???) tracks “Smoke in space” and “Δt=0” are brilliant pieces, odd rides, but certainly full of interesting and unique styles and ideas. Fusing elements of psych, folk, drone, post rock, kraut, doom, ambient, experimental sidekicks, they certainly have their own sound. The listener gets plunged into a surreal experience that never quite makes things easy on anyone. There is an extensive sense of cinematic music but very twisted. Once you surrender to it, however, a wonderful album full of twists and turns, and a sonic palette that includes organs, guitars, percussion, saxophone, and so on. The way they put it all together with the unusual cover, packaging adds up to a most unnerving yet unique experience. If you’re looking for something new and different then this might be right up your alley. 90/100 Cosmicmasseur. |
