Not a lot to tell about this project centered around Greek guitarist Babis Kaisas (formerly of Zandem, a project featuring former Shy drummer Alan Kelly which self-released an album in 2006...I think), whom wrote all songs and also handled the bass duties, and found great allies in British singer Tony Mills (of Shy and TNT fame) and Brazilian drummer Acacio Carvalho (known from Vougan and Dark Avenger, and currently a US resident).

Considering Zandem was already in the Poppy Heavy Rock genre, and considering the musical avenues usually traveled by the other participants of the project, I think no one will be surprised to find Kaisas going in that same direction. I'm always a bit doubtful of how a project like this (which was done purely over the Internet) comes together, but any project with Tony Mills (and in this case he performed àll vocals, apparently, which makes for rather harmonic backings indeed) is always bound to be a win-win situation. Of course, there's a coupe of added short samples, and occasionally Kaisas has taken a step back to make for a more balladesque feel, as one might expect from an '80-inspired band...but it all works out very well in the end.

If you're in doubt, just go listen to the songs posted at (www.) myspace.com/babiskaisas. For samples of all other songs (except the cover of the traditional “Jingle Bells”), check (www.) facebook.com/kaisasband. Weirdly enough, people into download versions rather than hard copy CDs will be the better this time, as the download version includes a bonus cover of Dokken's “In My Dreams”. Haven't heard it, but considering what I've heard so far, and taking in mind Mills' typical vocal signature, that cover must be quite good!

84/100

Tony.
