Band : The Orange Oven The Orange Oven control the stormy sky.. Yeah, I am trapped inside a cosmic warp and no I don’t wanna get out! There is something very enticing in their music. For the next twenty-nine minutes, this smashing outfit of psychedelic hipsters will control all that you think and hear. Do you like what you hear? Definitely yes; The disc opens with "Do you like what you see" a laid back mind-bending space psychedelic song created with liquid acid guitars and soaring electronics. "Egypt" is similar, but with a floating oriental synth-lead injecting a cool tripped out vibe to the already psychedelic hawkwind-like proceedings. The electronics and vocals on "Iraqui hashish" are totally spaced, much of it sounding like effects right out of a 50's science fiction movie, which sounds pretty wild alongside the simple rocking guitars. Wow, probably the trippiest Floydian song of the set. The title track is driven by a monster bass line while the guitar solos in the background and strange noises haunt your braincells. The last track "Up above" even takes a somewhat funky krautrockish rhythm and fills it with squealing guitars and enchanting vocals. The Orange Oven is rather inventive in different tones and approaches, adding some variety to the already wacky tracks. They are obviously talented and have a good thing going for themselves. This is is defintely a band with great potential and I will keep my eyes open for what they do next. And anyone into good space rock in general and Pink Floyd, Hawkwind or even Farflung in particular should check this too short album out... pronto! There are no excuses good enough not to. Mesmerizing debut. Cosmicmasseur. |
