Band: Alberto Rigoni Alberto Rigoni is an Italian bass player and composer that is rapidly gaining audience in the international music scene due to his many different projects and to his modern and fresh sound far away from any well known music cliché. ;Besides his solo career, Alberto is also known as member and bass player of the progressive metal band TwinSpirits and a founding member of a electro/pop project called Lady & the BASS. After the success of his first CD called Something Different, Alberto just couldn’t resist making and releasing a follow-up. The album Rebirth gives listeners 9 songs that aren’t really jazz, but could be considered under the genre of free jazz would they be that genre. Technicality in rhythms and leads, bass melodies and loose songs without hooks and catchy choruses to keep track of where the music is at. There are only 2 tracks with vocals on this record and these 2 songs immediately set themselves apart from the rest with their harder sound. Variation or “ugly duck(s)”? Depends on your personal preferences. Although it is a nice change in sound and genre, this is definitely nothing commercial or something that everyone will like. This is good music, and when you know something about it, you can appreciate it more. But the average person who hasn’t been to music school or doesn’t like/know anything about this genre probably will leave this record in the store. 69/100 Jeroen. |
