I’m eagerly awaiting each new Queensrÿche album, hoping they’ll repeat what they did with the eartshattering ‘Operation Mindcrime’, and with each new record I’m a bit disappointed because while most of their work is good, if not superb, it’s not comparable to Operation Mindcrime.

This album is better than ‘American Soldier’ that’s for sure, but it’s a strange album.  I mean at times it doesn’t even sound like metal anymore.  I also find the textual side of the album is on the weaker side.  Lots of repetitions, and rather simple, not the usual stuff we got used to by Queensrÿche. What’s also sad is that the guitars on this album don’t bite, and either that’s the reason why the album is not a true metal album, or they have been put on the background just to get that non metallic sound. Even if I’m not mad about this effort, their twelfth studio album in their thirty years of existence, I’m sure there will be other people who are of a different opinion.  Everybody has the right to make their own opinion.

What I do admire in these guys is the fact that they've never eschewed treading on fresh ground by continually experimenting with their sound.

70/100
