Review: MCD

Corpse Molester Cult are a Finnish band, formed in 2005, with a few interesting names in its ranks, like Antti Aström (v) (of Wasara-fame), Mikko Nevanlahti (d) (ex-Catamenia, ex-Wasara, The Undivine etc) and founding member Tomi Joutsen (g, no lead vocals, only backing vocals) (also in Wasara, as well as Sinisthra, Amorphis or The Candles Burning Blue). Their self-called debut was recorded and originally released in 2008 with engineer / mixer / master Sami Koivisto – known from his studio work for Finnish bands like Sotajumala, Alghazanth, Deathbound, Rotten Sound amongst others. The initial release was a web-related one, with a very limited CD-R edition (I guess 100 copies only). Lowlands’ Hammerheart, however, do have the intelligence to make this splendid recording available again in a decent version. Now you can enjoy this attack of your ear drums too, finally.
Seventeen bloody minutes of old school Death Metal with the dirtiest sound (very Swedish-sounding indeed!) and a sleazy death’n’Roll-approach. The whole sounds somewhat grooving and pretty ‘simple’ (not like in ‘uninspired’ but lacking of über-technical modernism). The production is rough and unpolished, yet it fits perfectly to the ugliness of this fat headbang-invitation.
Entombed, Obituary, Autopsy, Chaosbreed, Dismember, Sotajumala or Deathbound, all of them might have been of inspirational source, I guess, translated into no-nonsense and obedient love for the Early Years.

88/100
