How on earth does Thomas Gurrath find the themes for his songs? Already the title of the album itself Germany’s Next Death Metal is probably meant ironically, or as a sort of paraphrase to all the song contest programs genre Next Idol etc. Being forced to quit his job as a student teacher, because it was thought that his musical preferences and image was not compatible with someone who teaches, Thomas had his hands free to work on this record.

Now whereas I like the simplicity of the songs, and find the song themes sometimes hilarious, what puts me off are the grunts, but these seem to be undissolubly with death metal, so that’s not an excuse to write down this record. Even the cover version of “School’s Out” from Alice Cooper is nicely done.

So while it’s not really an album I’d buy, being absolutely no fan or admirer of death metal, this album does have its charms.

70/100
