Band: Repuked Repuked as band name, Pervertopia as title… …makes you dream of nauseous beauty, not?! And indeed, what you expect is what you get: sonic vomit chants, coming with a loud, filthy sound, pleasing the listener with a taste of excrements and the smell of decomposing body parts. Old, old, very old schooled (Stockholm-based) Death Metal with a sick, rather gore approach, and decorated with two nice yet undeniable factors: early Bathory and Punk – see below. The greater part of the album brings nasty Death Metal in the vein of Autopsy, Repulsion or Atrocity (the American one), with a varying tempo (lacking of extremes: no overload on blast beats, no permanent drop backs either) and a head role for brutality and morbidity. The performance is ‘primitive’ and ‘simple’ in its most positive definition – Graveyard Rock’n’Roll indeed it is! Several guitar and bass riffs and some drum patterns might have been inspired by Bathory’s earliest master works. Repuked do perform Death Metal, yet the whole shares lots of interesting moments taken from the Black-regions – other bands that may come to mind in this case are, for example, Venom, Tormentor, Possessed or Darkthrone, yet without the diabolical approach. The Punk-influences aren’t that unusual, especially to this specific kind of eighties-oriented brain damaging. Besides, they strengthen the toxic and splattered outbursts, like partly devoured pellets exploding in your face. Duration: forty five minutes. Can you imagine? Three quarters of this sickening bullshit to undergo. It was my pleasure… Now let me puke in peace… 84/100 Ivan Tibos. |
