Anima Morte is a fantastic Swedish group that plays instrumental 70s prog rock that is similar to the types of dark experimental organ based outfits (Antonius Rex, Delirium, The Black, Jacula) being played in Italy at the time.

The technical capabilities of these guys are great, and I am particularly impressed by the inventive drumming and the scope of the keyboards. The 10 tracks are stylistically very consistent, with plenty of themes and interwoven ideas, all spurned forth from synthesizers, mellotron, rhodes, Taurus. Anima Morte reminds me somewhat of Zombi, no bad thing when all is said and done, and of early Areknames and Anekdoten, but with less flashy guitar soloing and a more overtly weird and psychedelic sound. Touches of King Crimson and VanderGraaf Generator also shade the work. It seems to me that Anima Morte listened to a lot of 70s horror movie scores too and it's interesting to hear Ennio Morricone, Goblin, Fabio Frizzi and Riz Ortolani starting to influence some of the newer generation. Try it if you need something different.
