Review : CD
Black Water Rising hails from New York and plays hard rock founded on the 80's scene (Skid Row, Bang Tango) but with a contemporary feel (Black Spiders, Black Stone Cherry, Velvet Revolver)
Black Water Rising is a worthy debut album. There might be some hits and misses, but the good stuff (“Black bleeds through”, “No halos”, “The river” and “Burn it down”) outweighs the unconvincing. The album looses pace halfway through. BWR needs a few more up tempo tunes and more consistent song writing. Songs like “Blessed” and “Living proof rise” doesn't reach the same standard as album highlights. The musicians are experienced and especially the two guitarists are the driving force of this new band.
This quartet plays it safe and doesn't cover any new ground - but still it's a well-played record. the song writing is quite good and all the record need is a few aggressive rockers. There is potential and Black Water Rising is one to watch.
80/100
