Coming forth from Montreal, Quebec, October Sky has been around for some time and has been playing music for a decade. It started out as four teenagers with a passion and a common desire to excel in the studio and on stage. The Canadian quartet consists of Karl Raymond (vocals & guitars), Alex Racine (drums), Yanik Rouleau (keyboards), and Andrew Walker (bass).
Their First full length album “Hell Isn’t My Home“ has been around for a quite while now as it was released in 2008. The record features 10 tracks that find their origins in the alternative rock and electro scene. And it is with this record that the band started out to try and break trough and to this day they are still trying.
You have to give these lads credits for that, especially when you know they aren’t signed to a record label. Normally the reason why a band doesn’t get signed is because they aren’t that good. However the thing is that this LP earned them three awards for best provincial rock song, rock CD, and rock music video.
The best way to describe and compare the album is to say that this sounds like bands like for example “Muse”. You notice that they almost copy them flawless with their trademark creeping vocals, drawn out notes, a sort of dance/electro vibe going on due to different samples and the chugging guitar sound.
Like I said, you can compare them to “Muse”. But still remain original, or just can’t get to that same level (for example instrument techniques). But to be honest I prefer this band more than “Muse” due to the fact that it is simpler and gives a more “chill out vibe” witch goes better with that genre of music.
