Band : Cliffsight You can sense the stoner smells but its roots are firmly in the heavy psych rock of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Jeronimo, Alamo and The Doors. These young Frankfurter boys quite clearly are very good musicians, and their level of performances is one of the most enjoyable factors when listening to Soulful Man.;On the more stonerish front, the band gets down to business on the 10-minute epic “Quatorze” which demonstrates the band’s melodic guitar harmonies and groove-based power, and it includes some great solo turns as well as spacey mellow/loud shifts. More straightforward and less impressive, though they certainly have their moments, are “Illusion”, “Alter ego” and the bluesy “Jesper jazz and billy blues” with a short drumsolo are all somewhat similar in pace and style. Of the six tracks the latest 20-minute jam “Blue grandma sun” is probably my favorite because it fuses all of the band's best qualities into one condensed and intense guitarfest of a song. it’s by a long shot the most adventurous song on the album, featuring a very interesting foray into spacey sounds with some elements of kraut music in the middle of the song. 88/100 Cosmicmasseur. |
