Review: CD

I have no idea how many bands and projects are / were called ‘Psycho’ throughout the years. One worth mentioning is the Boston-based Hardcore / Punk band that recently released an album through Patac, posted on the site on December 31st 2010 by colleague-reviewer Nick T.
Pain Addict Pigs is an album by Singaporean Psycho, a filthy headbang’n’f*ckin’roll band that signed to superior Metal label Moribund. The album lasts for thirty four minutes and deals with sex and murder, death and life (which is worse?), (the lack of) belief and blasphemy.
After Intro (The First Incantation), Pain Addict Pigs opens with the title track, which is a rather primitive and no-nonsense form of old school-inspired Black / Thrash / Death Metal, groovy and rocking, fast and furious, yet with a certain intelligence in both lyrics and musical approach.
This approach covers the whole album: old school (eighties-oriented), nihilistic and primitive, sadistic and Satanic, Rock’n’Roll and Punk, Heavy and classic, and so on. The tempo varies a lot, the melodies and song structures as well, and the inspirational sources are legio: Incubus, Absu, Incantation, Sathanas, Doomstone, Prophesy, Toxic Holocaust, Abigail, Acheron.
Well, this album is a rather simple, un-complicated collection of ‘early years’-inspired Metal, the extreme way, with not much to add nowadays, yet with a sound, a performance, and a generality that might please those who love it the uncompromising and merciless way. Nothing more, nothing less either.

80/100
