Review: CD

Origin were formed almost fifteen years ago in Kansas, USA, and after signing to Relapse Records, they could release four excellent recordings (Origin, 2000; Informis Infinitas Inhumanitas, 2002; Echoes Of Decimation, 2005; Antithesis; 2008). Therefore Origin have always been one of my fave Relapse-bands. Last year these Americans (now a trio, by the way) parted ways with Relapse and they signed to Nuclear Blast from Germany, and the first result of this co-operation is called Entity.
Those who are trusted with Origin’s creations know what to expect, because Entity goes further where Antithesis left off. Indeed, Entity is filled with hyper-sonic Blast attacks, brutal Death Metal-assaults and ultra-heavy Grindeath eruptions, full of breaks, hooks and decelerations. At the same time, the material is melodious (even though it is almost insulting to use that terminology right here) and dissonantly technical (shifting time signatures, arpeggio-styled guitar riffs, dual vocals) – what a contradiction, what a provocation – and never before it did sound so comprehensive and all-embracing. In comparison to the 2008-monster called Antithesis, Entity is more varying and sometimes even ground-breaking, however without losing any of the complexity or intensity from the past.
Again a killer-release!
